Privacy Statement
Our Privacy Policy: The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 was implemented by Brokers National on 21st December 2001, and applies to any personal information, we collect, use, disclose, and handle. We are committed to National Privacy Principles approved by the Commissioner.
Collecting Information: We collect personal information either directly from you, or from third parties including authorized representatives, sub-brokers or agents, or business spotters. The reason we collect private information is so we can obtain insurance quotations and provide our various services to you. We gather personal and risk information on fact finder forms produced by our brokerage to ensure we endeavour to obtain information that is relevant for us to be able to assist you.
Various Services: Our services where personal information provided by you maybe used for insurance broking or agency services and risk management. The associated services we offer include: Commercial insurances, Personal insurances, Life insurances, Health insurance and Superannuation rollovers.
Disclosure of Information: In our initial discussion we gained consent from you to disclose your personal information to others that is relevant to assist us in arranging insurances for you. Third parties depending on the circumstances include: insurers, reinsurers, underwriting agencies, loss adjusters, claim investigators, premium financiers, authorized representatives, sub-brokers or agents, other insurance brokers with specialist facilities, and financial institutions, solicitors, accountants, and real estate agents with which you may have an association. Certificates of policy currency maybe issued on request, to others on your behalf.
Other Uses of Information: On occasions we may use your personal information for the cross marketing of other products and services we have available to you. Our insurance agency business name is Competitive Insurance Services which we use for Life, Superannuation and Investment products for cross marketing purposes. If we sell our portfolio to another business your policy information and private information in our files may pass to the purchaser so they can continue to offer various services to you.
Confidentiality of Information: We do not use or disclose personal information for any purpose that is unrelated to our services and that you would not reasonably expect to disclose without your consent. We have a duty to maintain confidentiality of our clients' affairs including personal information.
Updating of Information: We make every effort to ensure that private information supplied to us is up to date and accurate when we disclose it to others. If at anytime you see that information on our notices needs updating or is incorrect then we ask you to inform us immediately.
Consent to Use Information: You have the right not to provide us with certain personal information, but we may not be able to assist you with the service we offer, depending on the information withheld. We remind you also of your Duty of Disclosure in respect of information required by an insurer that maybe relevant to the insurer's decision in issuing insurance coverage to you. Please refer to the "Important Notices" on the reverse side of our Invoice.
Our Expectations of You and Third Parties: When you, a third party, or an associate acting on your behalf provide us with personal information about yourself or other individuals, we rely on you to have made them aware that you will be providing their private information to us, the purposes we use the information for, and the other parties we disclose their information to. If it is sensitive information we rely on you to have obtained their consent before giving it to us. You also have obligations under the Privacy Act in supplying personal information to others to us. You must also ensure that your agents, associates, employees, and contractors meet the privacy requirements relating to information.
Security of Information: We always endeavour to protect any personal information we hold from misuse and loss, and to protect it from unauthorized access. Our premises are locked and are located in an arcade which is secured and locked outside operating hours. We also use firewalls to maintain computer and network security and passwords are required to access our computer data.
Transfer of Information: It maybe necessary for other relevant parties we are using to arrange services for you to transfer your private information to others (including overseas) for the purpose of meeting your needs. Under no circumstances will be consent to third parties using your private information for any purpose other than the services you have requested from us.
Contacting our Privacy Officer: You can gain access to your personal information by identifying yourself to the satisfaction of our staff. If you have a query or complaint in relation to privacy then please contact our Privacy Officer - Doug Kerr. We request complaints be provided to us in writing by mail or facsimile so we can address your concerns promptly. Every effort will be made to resolve any issues promptly. Any unresolved complaints can be referred to the Commissioner.
